Have you ever noticed, for example, a kind of haze effect on your subject when photographing it in full sun? Direct sunlight or light reflected from objects and clouds results in poor color rendition, which becomes softened and hazy. Contrast also suffers because light infiltrations lighten the blacks in your photograph, as if you had photographed with a veil in front of it. Mounting a lens hood allows you to block these "bad" light intrusions.
