Optical stabilization system maximizes already high optical performance

The SIGMA 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS | Sports, developed with professional use in mind, offers not only high optical performance but also high-speed AF with dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) and an optical stabilization function of up to 7.5 stops. Lenses in the Sports line offer high optical performance, and all their functions are based on cutting-edge technology.

High performance across all zoom and focus ranges

The state-of-the-art optical design, employing quality optical glass materials including 6 FLD and 2 SLD special low-dispersion glass elements, delivers high resolving power across the entire zoom range. Three aspherical lenses are used, essential for superior optical performance and a simple yet effective optical scheme. The extremely high yield of the aspherical lenses, produced at SIGMA's exclusive Aizu manufacturing plant, further enhances optical performance. The floating focus improves results and ensures stable, high-level image quality from minimum focusing distance to infinity.

High-speed AF with dual HLA

The SIGMA 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS | Sports with floating focus is based on a structure where the two focusing groups move in opposite directions, thereby reducing the displacement of the focusing lenses by approximately half. Furthermore, the use of an HLA (High-speed Linear Actuator) motor in each of the two focusing groups enables high-speed autofocus. In addition to being fast and precise, the lens also uses a control program designed to be quiet, allowing you to shoot videos without worrying about motor noise.

OS2 stabilization algorithm

The latest OS2 optical stabilization algorithm provides extremely high image stabilization of 7.5 stops at the wide-angle focal length and 5.5 stops at the telephoto focal length*. The lens features two modes: 1 suitable for general shooting and mode 2 for panning shots of motor sports and other fast-moving sports. In mode 2, the SIGMA intelligent OS system, an algorithm designed for panning shots, enables effective image stabilization even when the camera is moved vertically or diagonally, regardless of horizontal and vertical orientation. This ensures that the movement of the subject can be captured without losing the panning effect.

Designed to minimize focus breathing

The lens has been designed to suppress focus breathing. The change in angle of view due to focus shift is minimized, creating a natural-looking continuous focus during video recording.

Designed to minimize flare and ghosting

Flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, are corrected under all incident light conditions based on the most advanced correction technology. The high backlighting correction produces clear and sharp images in any lighting condition.

At the same time, it offers a high level of mobility, which results in professional equipment that can be used tirelessly for a long time.

High quality and durability despite reduced size and weight

State-of-the-art optical/mechanical design characterizes the lens's appearance and internal structure, resulting in a significantly smaller and lighter body compared to the previous SIGMA 70-200mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | Sports. The body, including the barrel, is based on a "multi-material structure" that optimally uses materials such as magnesium, CFRP*1, and TSC*2. Although more manageable, the lens offers excellent SIGMA build quality, including high durability, robustness, and carefully designed control rings and switches to offer maximum ergonomics.

*1 CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic), a lightweight but strong material used in the interior and exterior finishes of aircraft, and many other applications.

*2 TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) is a type of polycarbonate with a thermal expansion rate similar to aluminum. It has a high affinity with metal parts and contributes to the realization of high-quality products.

Floating zoom system

The zoom mechanism uses an internal transfocal system. Since the total length of the lens does not change when zooming, it is easy to handle when shooting handheld, and also very stable when mounted on a gimbal. It is dust and splash resistant.

Weather resistance according to Sports line specifications

The mount bayonet, manual focus ring, zoom ring, switches, sliders, and body are all dust and splash-resistant* to prevent dust and dirt from entering the lens. In addition, the front element of the lens features a water-repellent and oil-repellent coating to facilitate cleaning when water droplets or dust adhere to it.

*The barrel is designed to resist dust and splashes of water, but it is not waterproof. Be careful not to wet the lens with large amounts of water. Water inside the lens can cause serious damage and irreparable damage

A wide range of functions assist professional photographers

In addition to an aperture ring, a magnesium tripod collar, and various switches, the lens is very handy and offers a wide range of functions that facilitate shooting.

Equipped with an aperture ring

This is the first SIGMA zoom lens equipped with an aperture ring. It also features a click switch for the aperture ring and a lock switch, allowing you to set the best aperture in a variety of shooting conditions.

Newly designed tripod collar

The lens body incorporates an Arca-Swiss compatible tripod collar made of magnesium alloy. The movable part has been designed for the SIGMA 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS | Sports to achieve a compact and ergonomic design.

Customizable functions

Equipped with a Focus Limiter slider, the lens allows you to limit the focus range during AF, and enables fast and precise focusing.
In addition, the lens features three AFL* buttons ready to be assigned to your preferred camera functions. The AFL buttons are easy to use regardless of how the camera is oriented or the settings used.
For the L-mount version, the SIGMA USB DOCK UD-11 can be used to set the OS operation or the focus limiter range

L-mount teleconverter (1.4x / 2.0x)

The L-mount version of the lens is compatible with SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1411 (1.4x) and TC-2011 (2.0x). By using a teleconverter, the focal length can be multiplied by 1.4x and even 2x, for AF shooting with ultra-telephoto focal lengths up to 400mm.

Standard lens hood

An exclusive lightweight and durable CFRP* lens hood is included. In addition to the special design, which does not compromise the mobility of the lens, the front of the lens hood is rubberized to protect the lens from abrasions and scratches when placed upside down on any surface.

*CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic), a lightweight but strong material also used in the interior and exterior finishes of aircraft.
