° Advanced splash- and dust-proof construction, and exclusive Protector filter (sold separately) that helps protect the front lens when shooting.
Built to achieve the highest performance even in the toughest conditions, the SIGMA 500mm F4 DG HSM/Sports truly offers protection against water and dust. The front lens is coated with a water and oil repellent layer that allows droplets to slide off and prevents greasy traces from remaining on its surface. This feature is particularly useful when shooting in light rain or on the beach exposed to ocean spray. The lens is compatible with the exclusive SIGMA Protector LPT-11 filter (sold separately) which protects it in any situation.

° Magnesium barrel
To reduce weight, which is always significant in super-telephoto lenses, the barrel is made of magnesium alloy. Light and robust, it allows for great handling of the SIGMA 500mm F4 DG HSM/Sports.

° Carbon fiber lens hood
The lens hood is made of carbon fiber: light and robust. The entire lens is built to be as light as possible and offer great performance even in difficult conditions of use.

° Bracket with rotation and 90° stop
Most photographers use super-telephoto lenses attached to a tripod or monopod. This one has a very stable and well-sized tripod bracket.
An anti-static nickel plating increases the robustness of the 90° rotation mechanism, which allows shooting both horizontally and vertically. The 90° rotation stop can be disengaged by actuating the release lever and then manually rotating it when a different angle than 90° is desired. The lens is also equipped with a shoulder strap, attached to the bracket, which allows for easy transport that does not cause mechanical stress to the camera mount.

° Nikon electromagnetic diaphragm
Lenses with Nikon mount are equipped with an electromagnetic diaphragm that communicates with the camera body. This ensures greater diaphragm control and better automatic exposure (AE) in continuous shooting.

2. Top-level optical performance
The optical design of the lens includes two FLS optical glass elements and one SLD element. This helps to minimize spherical aberration and axial chromatic aberration. The system also minimizes transverse chromatic aberration which can occur at the edges of telephoto lens images. Furthermore, the optical quality remains high even when the lens is used together with the SIGMA Tele Converter (sold separately).

The Circular Polarizer PL RCP-11 filter is a drop-in type and can be easily rotated during use. (The
Protector filter is inserted into the slot at the back of the lens, and is standard).
The standard equipment cannot be adjusted once inserted.

3. Functions that meet the demands of professionals
° OS system with accelerometer sensor and new OS algorithm
The Optical Stabilization (OS) system adopts an acceleration sensor that increases its performance and achieves stabilization of approximately 4 stops. There are two operating modes for the OS system: Mode 1 for general shots and Mode 2 for motor sports and similar shots that require tracking the subject in its horizontal movement. In Mode 2, the accelerometer works in conjunction with the OS system and its new algorithm to offer real stabilization even
when the photographer moves the camera horizontally, vertically or diagonally. This helps to perfectly capture moving subjects.

° AF with AF mode switching function
The AF switching function allows specific AF modes to be set. The lens remembers the type of focus you have chosen or forgets it until it is requested.
Note: The image refers to SIGMA lens mount. The switching system varies depending on the mount.

° Manual adjustment to select manual modes at any time
In addition to AF/MF, the lens offers MO manual switching and is one of the focus mode options. By setting the MO position, you can manually focus, by rotating the focus ring, at any time. Using the SIGMA USB DOCK accessory, the sensitivity of the MO manual focus control can be adjusted.

° Faster and quieter autofocus with "Optimized AF"
The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) offers fast and quiet focusing. Thanks to the new AF algorithm, the efficiency of continuous AF-C focusing is improved.

4. SIGMA Tele Converters, mount converters and USB DOCK allow for customization and fine-tuning for any need.

AF up to F8
The SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1401 or the TELE CONVERTER TC-2001 bring,
respectively, the focal length of the lens, always AF, to 700 F5.6 and 1000mm F8.
• With low light or low contrast subjects, focus may not occur on the subject.

° Compatible with the MC-11 mount converter

The MC-11 mount converter allows the use of lenses with SIGMA SA mount and SIGMA EOS (Canon Compatible) with a Sony E-mount camera body. Those who own camera bodies of different photographic systems can thus obtain more flexibility and performance from their photographic equipment.

° SIGMA USB DOCK - Customizable to your needs
Customization includes firmware updates, fine-tuning of focus, adjustment of manual controls, adjustment of the rotation of the manual MF focus ring. All this is possible by connecting the USB DOCK to a computer and using the SIGMA Optimization Pro software. With this lens, customization can be chosen from the lens. Customization modes concern AF speed, focus distance limiter, OS stabilization by choosing between "Dynamic View Mode" "Standard" "Moderate View Mode".

° Tested with SIGMA's proprietary MTF system "A1*"
To measure the MTF curve, we used conventional sensors. Today we have adopted our own MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) measurement system (A1) based on the 46-megapixel Foveon direct image sensor. High-frequency details that previously could not be detected with traditional sensors can now be detected with this type of quality control. Each SIGMA 500mm F4 DG OS HSM /Sports lens is tested with the "A1" system before being released to the market.

For years Sigma has built a wide variety of interchangeable lenses. Thanks to this vast experience, we present our Mount Conversion Service, available for the lenses of the new lines. Sigma changes the lens mount to that of your new camera system. In this way, when switching to a camera body of another brand, you are not forced to change all the lenses in your kit.
