Description
Optimized with the latest optical design technology, the Sigma 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a high-performance lens that offers exceptional image quality, despite its compact size. Two large-diameter aspherical lenses and five FLD glass lenses (whose characteristics mirror those of fluorite lenses) keep the lens light and compact while effectively suppressing lateral and vertical chromatic aberrations that often reduce the image quality of other ultra-wide-angle lenses. The lens is also compatible with the digital corrections of modern cameras.
Sigma has also adopted effective systems to counteract ghosting and flare caused by reflections within the lens. The Super Multi-Layer coating allows the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary to achieve sharp, high-contrast images even in the most challenging backlit conditions.
A stepping motor controls the lens's AF actuator, making it fast and quiet, which is ideal for shooting photos and videos in environments where silence is required, such as theaters.
The internal zoom mechanism allows the lens to maintain the same length throughout the entire zoom range, with virtually no shift in the center of gravity.
Together with the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary, it forms a pair capable of covering focal lengths from ultra-wide-angle to medium telephoto with just two lenses. The total weight of the two lenses is only 920g. Together, they represent an extremely versatile and compact lens system with an F2.8 aperture.
The lens is constructed using specially selected lightweight materials including Thermally Stable Composite (TSC), a polycarbonate with a thermal expansion rate similar to that of aluminum. This allows the lens to perform at its best even in environments with large temperature fluctuations.
The precision of each individual component and the beauty of the finished product have been achieved thanks to the craftsmanship and expertise of Sigma staff, the company's unparalleled manufacturing technology, and rigorous quality control.
