Samyang has a new short telephoto lens for the Sony system. It is the Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE. Notable features of the lens are its low weight and compact size.
the Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE has a slightly shorter focal point than usual. Most short telephoto lenses are 85mm or 90mm. 75mm was a particularly popular focal point on analog rangefinder cameras.
The Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE has an STM motor, a stepping motor. This ensures precise and virtually silent focusing. Autofocus is also quite fast. The Sony 85mm f/1.8 FE is a bit faster, but for portraits and general use it won't make much difference in practice. If you shoot a lot of sports, you'll notice the difference. For a lens that will be used a lot for portraits, it is of course important that eye AF and face recognition work well, and fortunately they do. This makes working with the Samyang very pleasant. Image magnification in the viewfinder also works as it should when manually focusing. Along with the Samyang AF 45mm f/1.8 FE, this is the Samyang with the best performance in the AF area.
the image quality of the Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE is superb. Sharpness and contrast in the center are already very good at full aperture. The corners are then a bit behind, but not by much.
