Honeycomb grids shape the light emitted by the flash and diffused by the softbox, causing only a modest loss of overall brightness. They are mainly used when you want to illuminate the central part of the affected area more brightly with considerable attenuation at the edges. The greater directionality of the light causes an increase in contrast and, therefore, in image definition.
