The UV filter does not add a real visual effect to the image and, consequently, having a simply neutral and transparent glass, it is used more as a protective filter for the front lens than as a filter for a particular effect. It certainly allows blocking most of the UV rays that could reach the sensor, theoretically allowing us to obtain greater image sharpness with slightly warmer tones. Unfortunately, the effect is so limited that its real use is as protective glass.

A photographic filter is an optical accessory that, when placed in front of the lens, is able to make a specific change to the captured image. Its peculiarity is that it selectively allows light to pass through, modifying what actually reaches the sensitive medium. By saying that no software is able to perfectly emulate the effect of filters, we note that: the changes we make to the image directly during shooting, by modifying the light with the help of a filter, will be more real and will maintain the original quality of the file (in the digital realm).

If, on the other hand, we tried to reproduce an effect through post-production, we would realize that the more we modify the file, the more the overall quality will suffer, and even using a .RAW file, we would inevitably find ourselves having to manage the appearance of artifacts and the qualitative degradation of the photo. The most commonly used filters in photography are many but share a common characteristic: the way they are applied to the lens. There are mainly two types: screw-in filters and plate filters, which require an additional accessory to be used.
